| Mixed Use at The Long Close, Wincanton
A design for a prominent site on the edge of Wincanton and bordering the A303. Originally allocated as employment land Tetlow King negotiated with South Somerset Council to provide a mixed use development. The proposals comprise the demolition of an existing dwelling house and the redevelopment of a part implemented truck stop to provide a mixed use development of employment and residential uses.
The scheme comprises 19 B1 employment units, 19 live work units and 82 residential units. The development is designed to be sympathetic with the nearby town centre location, while making an important statement at the gateway to the town when approached from the A303 or along the A371. To this end the development has adopted a forward looking contemporary interpretation of the local vernacular, which is considered appropriate due to the isolated nature of the site from the town and the importance of its gateway location. |
