Tetlow King was part of a consultant team who have gained outline planning consent for a mixed use development at a site north of Chipping Sodbury town centre in south Gloucestershire.
The challenging site is partly occupied by a disused quarry and the development had to be carefully designed to sit within the quarry walls. The development includes: A 2000sqm foodstore; a 92 space long-stay and 206 space short-stay car park; a new pedestrian link to and from the High Street including small-scale retail and commercial units; approximately 170 new homes of mixed size and density; a new access road; landscaped areas; enhanced pedestrian routes and enabling works within the quarry void.
The proposal is to create a new mixed use and residential quarter that will respond to the character of the existing town and be identifiable as being a part of Chipping Sodbury. Character areas within the proposal will reinforce this local identity, creating legibility for the resident and visitor. It will open up previously inaccessible areas of the former quarry to both residents and the wider community. Areas of SSSI with restricted access for specialist interest will be retained in the new layout and preserved.
All the character areas have been formed within existing landscape features and show an appreciation of the topography and the retained structural landscaping of rock slopes, banks, watercourses and trees.
Tetlow King provided the architectural and masterplanning services for the redsidential areas and produced the Design and Access Statement, sustainability reports and a number of public consultation exhibitions. |
