| Masterplan for The Old Printworks, Paulton, Somerset |
> Back to Masterplanning Menu |
|
The development is on the site of a former printworks on the northern edge of Paulton in Somerset. The 18.5 hectare site consisted of the factory buildings, hardstanding and grassland. A £3m decontamination and asbestos removal programme was required before development of the site could begin. The outline planning application was approved in the summer of 2008.
The key objectives of the masterplan are to create a place that will compliment and enhance the existing village and have a hierarchy of streets and spaces that are safe, easy to use and are immediately recogniseable as being part of Paulton. Four key spaces will be emphasised with key buildings around communal spaces with greens, play areas and squares. Half Acre Square in the south of the site is the largest of these and is surrounded by offices and the Community Building.
The development will provide a mix of employment opportunities and residential development.
The masterplan provides sustainable and efficient re-development of the brownfield land whilst minimising the burden on the local eco-systems and promoting environmentally friendly activity. |
